Reception

Welcome to Reception Class (2023-2024)

Welcome to Reception class page. Here you will find important information about our routines, curriculum and general information.

We use Seesaw to keep you updated each week with the exciting activities we have been doing in the classroom.

Reading
Children will be taught to read using the Little Wandle scheme. During our open event in the Autumn term, you have all been given information about how your child is taught phonics in school as a vehicle to develop their love of reading. We have also shared with how you can support your child’s reading journey at home.

Each week, staff will send home a sheet that shows which sounds your child has been learning. There are also videos for parents on the Little Wandle website that demonstrate how your child is taught to say each sound.

Children will be given the opportunity to borrow a book from their class library each week. This is a book that is intended to be read to them, to develop their love of reading.

If you need any further support, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child’s class teacher.

PE
PE takes place on Wednesdays. Please send your child to school in their PE kit.

Please ensure any earrings are removed before your child comes into school.

Please make sure that your child has the correct PE Kit:

  • Black shorts, white t-shirt and trainers
  • No football or sports tops please.
  • Tracksuit bottoms for outdoor lessons
